Shiela Vickers Obituary

Elizabeth Shiela Vickers was born on February 24 1928 to Albert & Euphemia Riddy on their farm in Clumber District near Bredenbury, SK. She was the second of four children - older brother Ross, younger siblings Charlotte and Alex. Her mother was a midwife for the district and was often delivering babies so from the age of nine Shiela was making meals, bread and tailoring clothes to help her family.

She attended Clumber School until she was 14 when she moved to Sarnia, ON to help her aunt Beth and family during the Second World War. When the war ended she returned to Bredenbury where she became a telephone operator,  Shiela married Arnold Vickers on July 27, 1949 at the Clumber Church and from there they started their family in Bredenbury, SK - Lloyd, Sandy, Joe and Kathy.

Shiela’s family was her greatest treasure and she was always cooking, baking, sewing or assisting her children and grandchildren with whatever they needed. Her sewing talents were amazing to say the least - from sewing clothes for her family, wedding dresses, countless skating carnival costumes, vests for the Bredenbury Lions Club and choir gowns for the Bredenbury United Church Choir to name only a few. Shiela was an amazing painter and enjoyed oil painting, watercolours, and folk art painting. She would paint on anything - she painted numerous cement stepping stones with beautiful flower bouquets and landscapes.

Community was very important to her. She served on various committees and was a dedicated member of the Bredenbury United Church and UCW Group.  After the loss of her husband in January 2018 Shiela moved to the Manor in Churchbridge, SK. She enjoyed the company of the residents and staff and lived there independently until she was hospitalized on Dec 24, 2025.

She was predeceased by her husband Arnold; son Lloyd; Parents Albert & Euphemia Riddy; in laws Harry & Hester Vickers; brothers Ross Riddy and Alex (Sylvia) Riddy; sister Charlotte (Wally) Becker; and sister in law Donalda (Alan) Schuster.

Shiela leaves to celebrate her life - daughter Sandy (Kent) Ritchie; son Joe Vickers; daughter Kathy (Grant) Jacob; Daughter-in-laws Bev Vickers and Bonnie Vickers; Grandchildren Wayne Vickers, Steven (Wenda) Ritchie, Adam (Amanda) Ritchie, Sara (Jay) Barber, Chris (Julie) Vickers, Scott (Kandace) Vickers, Andrew (Samantha) Vickers, Katelyn (Brett) Bjarnason, Colby (Kylee) Jacob, Ty Jacob; Great grandchildren Jayla, Jessie & Jairyn Ritchie, Kadin & Paytin Ritchie, Pacey & Tenley Barber, Sophie & Colton Vickers, Beverly McGillis, Parker & Izzy Holness, Masen & Millie Vickers, Finn Bjarnason; Sister-in-law Pauline Riddy; and numerous nieces and nephews,

Shiela will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-

grandmother, aunt and friend.

A life well lived!
