Gary William Langley (son of Mervin and Marjorie) passed away peacefully at the Preeceville District Long Term Care Home on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Gary was born in the Yorkton Regional Hospital, SK on February 11th, 1957 and raised on the family farm just outside of Springside. He attended the Springside Elementary School from grades 1 – 6; the Composite Junior High (Yorkton) from grades 7 – 9; and the Yorkton Regional High School for grades 10 - 12. Following his graduation in 1975, Gary attended the University of Saskatchewan, receiving his diploma in Agriculture. Gary’s career then took a “180 degree” turn and he joined the military in 1977. He took his Basic Training in Cornwallis, NS where he received the “Most Improved Recruit Award” upon graduation. He then went to CFB Borden, ON where he took his trade’s training as a Vehicle Technician in the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers; he was then posted to 1 Service Battalion in Calgary, AB. Although Gary loved being a mechanic, after 7 years he decided he was not very keen on the Army Environment, specifically the field exercises and he remustered to the Air Force, becoming an Instrument Electrical technician. He received honours on his trade exams; on his last exam he received the highest mark in all of Canada with a 95% final mark. Following graduation from CFB Borden, he was posted to CFB Cold Lake, AB for the next 17+ years. His last posting was a two year stint at CFB Winnipeg, MB. Some of his notable achievements in the military were a six month tour in CFS Alert (the northernmost continuously inhabited place in the world) and completed two Nijmegan Marches in Holland, which is a premier annual event that has military participants from around the world covering 160 kms over a 4 day/40 km per day span with a 25 lb load per person. After 27 years of service he retired in 2004 and returned to Saskatchewan to resume grain farming on the family farm.
Gary enjoyed travelling to various destinations and his travel companion for many of these trips was his Aunt Leona; specifically going to Florida and Las Vegas. Gary’s companion of 12+ years, Anne, has been a Godsend for Gary and the family. Her selfless devotion to Gary during his battle with dementia was awe-inspiring and something the family will always be thankful for.
Gary is survived by siblings Robbie (b.1956), Blair/Judy (b.1958), Terrence/Camini (b.1960), David/Coreen (b.1961) and Mona/Keith (b.1963); Aunts Leona (Elwood), Carol and Ellen (Vic); as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Due to dementia related issues, Gary became a resident of the Yorkton Crossing in August of 2023 which he thoroughly enjoyed until the summer of 2025. When his condition worsened, he was then transferred to the Preeceville LTC in Aug of 2025 until his passing.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, father Mervin, mother Marjorie, his Uncles Gordon, Gerald, Tommy, his Aunt Phyllis, cousin Sherry and sister-in-law Linda.
